2009-10-10 Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers

Xanadu Theatre at the Taj Mahal

2009-3-4.jpg

Only a small crowd of Bruce fans showed up for this show out in Atlantic City.

Bruce started by suggesting the possibility of playing the Dead tune "Jack Straw" but the response failed to impress and the band then went right into a standard set. While it was rare that Hornsby would play a show for his own fans that was comprised only of his most well-known tunes, it didn't bother me at all. I was happy to see and hear that show from the first row, and was able to take excellent photos of the band on this night.

I was able to chat with JT Thomas after the show, and he was surprised to learn that Kelly Clarkson was also playing that night in the larger theatre inside the Taj Mahal.

2011-10-17 Levon Helm Band

John Gill Farm

This was a free concert at the old Gill Farm, which has since changed ownership. To access the farm, concert-goers parked in town and shuttled over together by school bus. At the farm there were snacks, farm goods and a big air gun shooter that shot pumpkins high in the air.

Photostack Below: The photos show the scene around the Farm that day, the members of Levon helm Band arriving, the concert and the band afterwards, with Levon waiving from his vehicle while holding his dog in his lap. It shows how red his hand was from playing.

2013-02-13 Steve Kimock and Bernie Worell

NYC West Side [Location]

Great to see Bernie play keyboards again, and especially nice to see him with Kimock in a small place on the Upper West Side. Bernie Williams came out as a guest and played guitar. After the show we bunked into Rich “Goose” Gossage (its kind of hard to miss him), Hall of Fame Yankees star, who one of there in support of Bernie Williams.

2013-06-15 Hot Tuna at Clearwater Festival

Croton Point Park

Pete Seeger performed at the 2013 Clearwater festival for the last time before he passed away.

The festival was founded in the wake of environmental effects on the Hudson River and had its origins in the building of Sloop Clearwater, which Pete Seeger and friends raised donations to build in order to promote awareness of the environmental issues with the river and more generally with the earth. In its various forms the festival has taken place for over 50 years and is a great event. The proceeds go directly to support Clearwater’s environmental research, education, and advocacy to help preserve and protect the river and its tributaries, as well as general Hudson river valley.

The Festival in 2013 focused on commemorating and supporting Pete Seeger’s life and work, including his impact on young musicians who learned to play banjo and guitar through his learn-to-play series. Jorma talked about Pete’s influence during the Hot Tuna set, proclaiming simply that “Pete is the Man!”
